About the Facility
Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital (KBRH) serves 85,000 residents across the region, offering comprehensive care including 24/7 emergency and trauma services, intensive care, acute medical care, renal dialysis, and neonatal intensive care. The hospital is equipped with specialized units in ophthalmology, otolaryngology, orthopedic surgery, pediatrics, plastic surgery, psychiatry, urology, general surgery, obstetrics & gynecology, neurology, oncology, and internal medicine. KBRH operates a 24-hour High Acuity Response Team (HART), positioning it as the regional hub for critically ill and injured patients.
About the Role
Join the KBRH team as a General Surgeon, where your expertise will address a broad spectrum of surgical cases reflective of the community’s active lifestyles. The role offers a collaborative and supportive environment with dedicated medical staff and comprehensive perioperative support. You will have access to 4 OR days and 4 endoscopy days per month, with foundational expertise in endoscopic procedures being crucial. Your practice will extend to Kootenay Lakes Hospital in Nelson, Castlegar and District Community Health Centre, Grand Forks’ Boundary District Hospital, Slocan Community Health Centre, and Arrow Lakes Hospital in Nakusp, delivering high-quality care across the region.
Opportunities to teach 3rd-year medical students through collaboration with the UBC Faculty of Medicine are available, allowing you to integrate teaching into your schedule. Involvement in Physician Quality Improvement (PQI) projects, supported by Doctors of BC, enables you to drive innovation and progress in healthcare.
Locum Opportunity
Seeking locum coverage for approximately 10 days per month from November 2025 to June 30, 2026, with flexibility based on availability. This role involves Hospital-Based On-Call Coverage (24-hour weekends). The Rural Specialist Locum Program (RSLP) covers travel and accommodations, including up to $1,560 for travel time costs and reimbursement for reasonable transportation and lodging expenses.
