The position offers a diverse and engaging practice with access to 4 OR days and 4 endoscopy days per month, catering to a wide range of surgical needs. Your foundational expertise in endoscopic procedures is crucial to our team. In addition to your work at KBRH, your skills will support Kootenay Lakes Hospital in Nelson, Castlegar and District Community Health Centre, Grand Forks’ Boundary District Hospital, Slocan Community Health Centre, and Arrow Lakes Hospital in Nakusp, delivering high-quality care across the region.
Collaboration with the UBC Faculty of Medicine offers enriching opportunities to teach 3rd-year medical students, allowing you to seamlessly incorporate teaching into your schedule. You will also contribute to projects enhancing Physician Quality Improvement (PQI), supported by Doctors of BC, driving innovation and progress in healthcare.

Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital (KBRH) is committed to the health and wellness of 85,000 residents across the region, providing personalized and comprehensive care. Services include 24/7 emergency and trauma care, specialized units for intensive care, acute medical conditions, renal dialysis, and neonatal intensive care.
The hospital’s dedicated specialists cover ophthalmology, otolaryngology, orthopedic surgery, pediatrics, plastic surgery, psychiatry, urology, general surgery, obstetrics & gynecology, neurology, oncology, and internal medicine. The 24-hour High Acuity Response Team (HART) underscores KBRH’s role as the regional hub for critically ill and injured patients.
Responsibilities
- Address a broad spectrum of surgical cases, including endoscopic procedures.
- Provide surgical care at KBRH and support regional hospitals, including Kootenay Lakes Hospital, Castlegar and District Community Health Centre, Boundary District Hospital, Slocan Community Health Centre, and Arrow Lakes Hospital.
- Teach and mentor 3rd-year medical students through collaboration with the UBC Faculty of Medicine.
- Participate in Physician Quality Improvement (PQI) projects to drive innovation and enhance healthcare delivery.
Schedule and Locum Opportunities
Currently seeking locum coverage for approximately 10 days per month from November 2025 to June 30, 2026, with flexibility depending on availability. This role involves hospital-based on-call coverage (24 hours/weekends).
The Rural Specialist Locum Program (RSLP) provides coverage for travel and accommodations, including up to $1,560 for travel time costs and reimbursement for reasonable transportation and lodging expenses.
