General Surgeon

About the role

National Wound Physician Group is seeking a Part-Time General Surgeon to join our practice in Des Moines, IA. Our physicians provide bedside wound management in post-acute care settings, including Skilled Nursing Facilities and Long-Term Acute Care Hospitals, across over 3,200 facilities in 28 states. This role offers clinical satisfaction, autonomy, flexibility, and work-life balance with no nights, no call, and no weekend responsibilities.

Clinical responsibilities

• Provide bedside wound care in post-acute care settings (Skilled Nursing Facilities and Long-Term Acute Care Hospitals)
• Conduct weekly wound rounds at each assigned facility
• Visit 2-3 facilities per day, treating approximately 20-30 patients per day
• Perform real-time clinical documentation at point of care using proprietary wound-specific EMR
• Utilize cutting-edge clinical technologies and the latest wound care modalities

Training and development

• Receive physician-level wound management training from highly qualified wound certified physician trainers and Fellowship Directors
• Paid training provided during onboarding plus a 6-month wound care fellowship
• Gain all knowledge and expertise needed for clinical excellence

Schedule

• Part-time role: minimum commitment of 3 weekdays per week
• Full-time role: 4-5 days per week (Monday-Friday, 7am-4pm)
• No call, no weekend clinical responsibilities
• Mobile practice: physicians visit facilities within a 40-60 mile radius of practice location

Requirements

• Active unrestricted medical license (MD/DO) in the state of Iowa
• Minimum commitment of 3 weekdays per week

Compensation

• W2 full-time physicians earn on average $300,000 per year plus benefits
• Full health and retirement benefits provided
• Medical malpractice with tail coverage provided

• W2 employment contract (no work visa sponsorship available)
