About the role

The General Superintendent – Power will provide field leadership and operational oversight for natural gas and thermal power generation projects, ensuring safe, high-quality, and efficient delivery across all phases of construction. This role is accountable for developing and executing project plans, directing field operations, managing subcontractors, and coordinating all site activities to meet schedule, budget, and performance goals.

As a senior field leader, you will establish project sequencing, oversee complex construction means and methods, and ensure alignment with engineering, project management, and commissioning teams. This role supports the company’s strategy in the power generation market, applying deep knowledge of power-sector construction, including large equipment installation, industrial systems integration, rigorous QA/QC processes, and complex safety requirements.

The General Superintendent will mentor field teams, build strong relationships with trade partners, and maintain direct communication with clients, OEMs, and engineering partners to ensure seamless project execution. This leader will drive consistency, operational excellence, and field-driven innovation across multiple projects while modeling the company’s values.

Responsibilities

Leads all aspects of the company’s safety culture, demonstrating commitment to an injury-free environment through individual actions and mentoring others. Investigates safety incidents and retrains staff as needed.
Communicates key project information to owners, design teams, governing authorities, subcontractors, suppliers, and other departments.
Follows the project filing and documentation organization system, updating drawings, logs, diaries, and inspection notebooks.
Approves and records unit cost information for weekly reports, completes daily reports, logs, and tracking reports.
Evaluates progress on self-perform work and adjusts as needed. Manages material and equipment needs for the project.
Supports the MOC (Material and Other Costs) and DLSC (Dunn Logistics Service Center) procurement and approval processes.
Assists in selecting formwork, tools, and equipment for self-perform operations.
Manages the timecard approval process to ensure accurate hours and proper cost codes.
Ensures quality compliance through specifications, setting quality standards, and using in-house QA/QC and outside resources.
Supports project closeouts by supervising pre-punch activities and coordinating with the owner, architect, and governing authorities.
Participates in the project pursuit process and methodology, contributing to project pre-planning and adjustments throughout the lifecycle.
Partners with field leadership to establish field staffing and with project management to identify schedule and cost impacts of changes.
Participates in negotiations with owners and architects to gain agreement on project changes.
Prepares and presents materials for project review meetings, including monthly reviews and other key meetings.
Participates in project buy-out meetings with subcontractors and vendors.
Understands and applies the terms and conditions of owner and subcontractor contracts.
Identifies and recruits top talent while promoting a culture of diversity and inclusion.
Oversees installation of major power-plant systems, including gas turbines, steam turbines, HRSG components, balance-of-plant equipment, and associated mechanical/electrical systems.
Ensures compliance with strict safety protocols specific to power generation, including lockout/tagout (LOTO), energy isolation, confined space, and high-voltage environments.
Collaborates with commissioning teams to coordinate turnover packages, manage system walk-downs, and support startup and testing activities.
Interfaces with OEM technical advisors and engineering partners to resolve field issues and ensure installation meets performance and warranty requirements.
Leads field constructability reviews during preconstruction and early project planning, contributing to schedule development, budget development, and logistics strategies.
Manages the largest, most complex stand-alone and/or multiple complex projects from initial planning to completion.
Provides management and/or oversight to multiple projects and project teams.
Contributes to company and regional strategic initiatives, including the development of relevant training content.
Responsible for selecting and developing internal subject matter experts.
Delivers leadership messages to multiple audiences both internally and externally.
Helps shape company-wide field operations strategy for thermal/natural gas power projects, including best practices, procedures, and execution planning.

Requirements

12+ years of construction experience.
10+ years of field supervision experience.
Experience leading Lean principles on projects (preferred).
Proven track record managing major power generation projects from pursuit through closeout (preferred).
Experience coordinating startup and commissioning activities for complex mechanical/electrical systems.
Proven leadership on projects involving large-scale rigging operations, heavy mechanical installations, and high-energy systems.
Experience implementing advanced safety protocols specific to power-plant environments.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or related field (preferred). Equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
Ability to apply Lean process and philosophy (intermediate).
Advanced knowledge of specific trades and scopes of work, self-perform, and labor productivity.
Advanced ability to manage budgets, maximize profitability, and generate future work through relationship-building.
Knowledge of organizational structure and available resources.
Ability to understand document changes and their impact on the project schedule.
Advanced knowledge of layout, crane flagging, and rigging.
Intermediate knowledge of productivity rates and cost management skills.
Ability to build relationships and collaborate within a team, internally and externally.
Proficiency in coordinating complex outage, cutover, and system energization activities.
Advanced understanding of QA/QC programs for power projects, including weld inspections, pressure testing, equipment tolerances, and documentation requirements.
Strong capability to lead multi-contractor and multi-shift operations on high-risk, schedule-critical job sites.
Advanced understanding of natural gas and thermal power generation systems, including design, construction, and commissioning.
Ability to execute successful EPC contracts.
Maintains a deep understanding of power generation technologies.
Valid and unrestricted driver’s license required.
