About the Role
The Lower School General Studies Teacher will plan, organize, and implement the Scheck Hillel instructional program in a K-5th grade learning environment. This role is designed to realize our educational vision by guiding students to develop and fulfill their academic and social-emotional potential. Responsibilities
- Create a positive, inclusive classroom environment that promotes learning and engagement.
- Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning for all students.
- Communicate clear learning targets and success criteria for all activities.
- Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment, using technology to support and differentiate instruction.
- Develop formative and summative assessments in accordance with established procedures.
- Encourage and monitor individual student progress, adjusting teaching strategies as needed.
- Manage student behavior to facilitate learning, maintaining discipline per school policies.
- Maintain accurate records of students' progress and development as required by laws and school policies.
- Communicate consistently and timely with parents regarding academic and behavioral attitudes and achievements.
- Ensure student safety and security in the classroom and common areas, supervising students during field trips, assemblies, and other functions.
- Attend parent-teacher conferences, back-to-school nights, faculty meetings, and substitute in one class per week as needed.
- Supervise lunch, recess, carpool, and dismissal procedures.
- Stay up-to-date on current educational trends and research to improve teaching practices.
Requirements
- Dedication to creating a nurturing and challenging learning environment.
- Bachelor’s degree in education or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in a lower school setting.
- Valid teaching certification preferred.
- Strong knowledge of pedagogical practices and learning theories.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
