About the Role
Participate in maintenance and cleaning of City buildings and facilities, including janitorial and minor repair tasks. Perform set-up and take-down of displays and a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility.
Responsibilities
- Perform cleaning and routine maintenance of City facilities, including general custodial tasks and minor plumbing, carpentry, and electrical repairs.
- Perform general janitorial and custodial duties: sweep, mop, and buff floors; vacuum and shampoo carpets; clean windows and mirrors; clean restrooms, meeting rooms, ballrooms, and exhibit halls.
- Set up and break down meeting rooms, ballrooms, exhibit halls, classrooms, voting poll sites, and other rooms required for facility rentals and special events; assist rental clients, visitors, and staff by answering questions, giving directions, and providing support.
- Clean and maintain all City parking facilities; repair broken gates on ticket machines; clean oil spills; replace light bulbs; paint directional arrows, numbers, and reflector stripes; direct traffic in parking structures for special events; sweep, pick up trash, and clean parking lots before and after events.
- Maintain City building and facility grounds: water plants and lawns, trim shrubs, plant trees, program irrigation system controllers, and maintain interior gardens.
- Conduct or assist in general maintenance and light construction activities both indoors and outside: tape drywall, paint interior and exterior walls, install conduit, electrical cable, vehicle loop detectors, and traffic signal poles.
- Assist the public by offering directions and information at City-sponsored special events; explain programs, sign up participants, accept monies, and issue receipts.
- Assist in heavy road construction: build forms, pour, and finish concrete for sidewalks.
- Maintain sports fields, tennis courts, and stadium grounds: mow, aerate, top dress, and fertilize playing fields; prepare baseball and soccer fields for games by painting foul lines; paint and clean tennis courts.
- Operate forklifts; load and unload semi-trucks; operate City vehicles for clients as needed.
- Pick up and deliver equipment and materials.
- Respond to public inquiries courteously; provide information within the area of assignment; resolve complaints efficiently and timely.
- Adhere to safe work practices and procedures.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- One (1) year of general maintenance, light construction/repair, or general custodial work experience preferred.
- Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
- Possession of a City Operator’s Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.
- May be required to work weekends, holidays, odd days off, or shift work.
Working Conditions
Environmental
- Indoor and outdoor facilities maintenance; exposure to electrical energy, noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, gas, and inclement weather conditions.
- May work shifts, days, weekends, and evenings as needed.
Physical
- Essential and supplemental functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for moderate to heavy lifting and carrying; bending, stooping, kneeling, and crawling; walking and standing for prolonged periods; and operating motorized vehicles and equipment.
