GENERAL OPERATOR II-1st Shift

About the role

The General Operator II performs basic set-ups, operates production machines, and properly measures products to achieve all company targets and standards. This role requires the ability to set up and run secondary production machines such as Drill, Milling, Trim, Tapping, Crimping, Vision, Stamping, Marking, Deburr, Manual Punch Press, EDM and Auto Assembly. The General Operator II must maintain the expected level of competency for production machines in accordance with skill assessments.

Essential duties and responsibilities

• Performs basic set-ups and tooling changes and operates the secondary production machines after JSA trained
• Has clear understanding and performs following SOP (Standard Operating Procedures), work instructions, SPC, and/or special requirements if applicable, including but not exclusive to: Drill, Milling, Trim, Tapping, Crimping, Vision, Stamping, Marking, Deburr, Sorting and Assembly
• Recognizes and remedies minor machine or tooling malfunctioning; makes minor adjustments as necessary. Major discrepancies are reported to lead or supervisor
• Observes machine operation to detect work piece defects or machine malfunctions
• Reads blueprint or Manufacturing Order (MO) for product specification such as dimensions, tolerances, number or parts to be formed, and tooling instruction on type tooling required
• Inspects product using calipers, micrometer, comparator, scales, templates, or other measuring instruments to verify conformance to blueprint or manufacturing instructions
• Records information such as First article inspection, in-process inspection, number of products tested, meter readings, and dates and times of work piece production; performs SPC as required
• Recognizes cosmetic non-conformances based on Company specifications such as burrs, galling, cracked edges, slug marks, dimensional changes in production parts and initiates action to prevent non-conformance, such as stopping the machine and notifying the Lead person or Supervisor
• Operates Shop Floor System and records MO information
• Performs minor machine maintenance such as changing worn accessories, oiling and cleaning machines, dies, or parts, and adding coolant to machine reservoirs as part of daily job start/end
• Reports all malfunctioning equipment and non-conforming parts to Lead or Supervisors to determine course of action needed
• Performs record keeping, data entry, house keeping and follows safety regulations
• Assists less-skilled operators to develop skills and set-ups
• Responsible for complying with the rules and regulations set forth by Federal, Local, and State government, LISI Aerospace, and HSE Procedures
• Follows all 5S department procedures which include but are not limited to keeping floors clean of oil and debris, returning tools to proper locations, organizing part pans, and performing other housekeeping duties
• Responsible for attending all training provided and for adhering to all HSE procedures, policies, and plans, conforming to reporting requirements, and safe operating procedures at all times. Required to bring any known or suspected nonconformance for all company procedures or legal requirements to management's attention immediately
• Continually seeks opportunities to improve HSE performance by establishing objectives and targets, measuring progress, and reporting results
• Works under recommended waste elimination initiatives specifically related to the manufacturing production function such as recycling opportunities to eliminate or minimize production waste
• Performs a variety of other related duties as assigned

Supervisory responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or 1–4 years related industrial manufacturing experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints or other job specifications

Skills

• Computer Skills: Basic computer skills and departmental applications including SPC and Shop Floor System
• Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; ability to write simple correspondence; must be able to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to Team Members of the organization
• Mathematical Skills: Ability to add and subtract six digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's; ability to perform these operations using units and weight measurement, volume, and distance
• Reasoning Ability: Ability to comprehend detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions; ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations

Physical demands

• Frequently required to stand for extended periods of time, speak or listen, and walk
• Frequently required to use eye-hand coordination, repetitive hand movement and manual dexterity using hands to finger, handle, or feel
• Must frequently bend, reach to shoulder level and lift, carry, push and/or pull up to 30 pounds
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus
• Hearing level within normal/average range

Work environment

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Personal safety equipment such as safety glasses, hearing protection, or proper footwear PPE is required in specified areas.

• Immediately correct, whenever possible, or report to superiors and/or the HSE department any malfunction or risky situation in the fields of health, safety and environmental protection
• Implement preventive actions to reduce the environmental footprint and control health and safety risks
• Participate, upon request, in analyses (of risks, incidents) and HSE working groups related to professional scope
• Be familiar with the main health and safety risks and the main environmental impacts relating to the scope of work
• Be familiar with the site's HSE policy and objectives
• Make proposals for improving working conditions and limiting environmental impact

Pay

$23.81-28/hr.
