About the role

As a General Merchandise Team Leader, you’ll enable a consistent experience for guests by ensuring product is in stock, available, accurately priced, and signed on the sales floor. You’ll lead a team in executing daily workload to support sales goals, guest engagement, and operational efficiency in General Merchandise areas, including replenishment, pricing, signing, setting, and maintaining the sales floor and backroom.

Responsibilities

• Consistently deliver guest experience commitments to create an easy, inspiring, and friendly experience. Train and hold team members accountable for guest service standards.
• Review guest, financial, and team outcome metrics to identify opportunities, drive improvements, and celebrate wins.
• Lead daily/weekly workload execution—receiving, merchandising, signing, setting, and updating sales floor displays—to meet department and store sales goals.
• Educate team on how operational procedures (e.g., inventory management, stock levels) impact store profitability and product availability.
• Assign tasks based on workload and guest traffic, ensuring alignment with business priorities set by leadership.
• Help assess and resolve gaps in GM processes, including fulfillment (pick, pack, ship) if applicable.
• Collaborate with all teams to ensure the store is guest-ready, prioritizing product availability and accuracy.
• Stay informed about trends and products to educate team members during connections.
• Evaluate and develop team members for future leadership roles, closing skill gaps through coaching.
• Support guest services (e.g., back-up cashier, digital fulfillment) while maintaining compliance.
• Demonstrate inclusivity, ethical conduct, and safety culture; model and enforce policies and procedures.
• Lead physical security processes and merchandise protection strategies.
• Occasionally assume store-level leadership on duty (LOD) responsibilities during assigned shifts.
• Address store emergencies and compliance needs as required.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Age 18 or older.
• Previous retail experience preferred but not required.
• Ability to lead and hold others accountable.
• Proficiency with handheld scanners, frequency devices, and other technology.
• Work independently and as part of a team; manage workload and prioritize tasks.
• Remain focused in a fast-paced environment and accomplish tasks within timeframes.
• Welcoming attitude toward guests and team members; strong communication skills.
• Access all store areas to respond to guest or team member issues.
• Interpret instructions, reports, and information accurately.
• Handle cash register operations as needed.
• Climb ladders and frequently lift/move merchandise up to 44 pounds without assistance.
• Flexible schedule (nights, weekends, holidays); reliable attendance required.
• Work in varying temperatures, humidity, and other elements (e.g., Drive-Up, carryout).
• Remain mobile for the duration of scheduled shifts (shift length varies).

Pay

Starting pay range: $23.00–$25.00 per hour. Full pay range: $23.00–$39.10 per hour. Pay is based on labor markets, education, work experience, and certifications.
