About the role
The General Mechanic reports to the Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor and performs minor electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and carpentry work for buildings on and off campus. This position is considered essential personnel and must be available during emergencies, including snow removal with early start times (5 a.m. or 6 a.m.) as determined by weather forecasts.
Responsibilities
- Perform minor repairs and/or replacement of plumbing fixtures, valves, and other devices
- Perform minor repairs and/or replacements of electrical fixtures, devices, and appliances
- Perform minor carpentry work to repair windows, doors, hardware, screens, and furniture; assist with event setups
- Assist with snow plowing, ice removal, salting, and clearing snow from all areas
- Remove trash from University residential halls and student resident apartments, including weekend duties as needed
- Assist with first-year student move-in day activities and commencement setup on or off campus
- Perform custodial work on an emergency basis, including cleaning of all university areas
- Setup and move furniture in student rooms, lounges, and other support spaces
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent (required)
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in care and maintenance of similar facilities
- Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license
- Ability to uphold human dignity and respect by valuing diverse perspectives and treating others with kindness, fairness, and empathy

Schedule
Tuesday through Saturday, 3:00 pm – 11:30 pm. Full-time, 12-month position.
