About the Role
A General Manager is responsible for inspiring the team, helping customers succeed, and growing the business with integrity. This professional-level sales and management position supports both retail and professional customer functions. The role requires understanding of store systems, automotive systems, parts knowledge, and the ability to troubleshoot and assist DIY customers. General Managers develop and maintain professional customer relationships, drive program growth, and ensure financial and operational success.
This is an exempt position requiring a minimum of 50-55 hours per week (excluding meal breaks). The typical schedule is 5-6 days a week, with 11-hour shifts including rotating nights and weekends, plus an hour for lunch. Additional hours may be required based on business needs.
Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities
- Achieve overall store sales goals and service objectives
- Manage and grow professional customer relationships and sales, including team accountability for executing customer action plans
- Oversee selection, hiring, development, performance management, coaching, scheduling, and engagement of store team members
- Ensure execution of all inventory and operational standards
- Coach team members to deliver on customer expectations (DIY and professional)
- Handle manager-on-duty responsibilities, including coaching, floor/phone management, task assignment, safety, and open/close duties
- Lead change management initiatives
- Foster a respectful and diverse environment for customers and team members
Secondary Responsibilities
- Provide DIY services such as battery installation, testing, and wiper installation
- Assist district/region in other functions as requested

- Ability to review and analyze profit and loss (P&L) statements
- Strong recruitment, selection, hiring, and development of quality team members
- Ability to build and grow relationships with professional customers
Requirements
- Working knowledge of automotive systems (preferred)
- Fluency in English (written and spoken); Spanish is a plus
- Effective communication and relationship-building with customers, peers, and upper management
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel required; PowerPoint preferred)
- Ability to calculate figures such as discounts, percentages, sales increases, and gross profit percentages
- Ability to review and analyze business reports, including P&L statements
- Strong leadership in holding others accountable, inspecting work quality, and providing inspiring feedback
- Flexibility to work varied days, evenings, and weekends as needed
Qualifications
- 2-3 years of experience managing a team of 10-20 members in a fast-paced, dynamic retail environment
- Proven experience managing profitability and demonstrated financial and business acumen
- High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree in business or a related field preferred
- Valid driver’s license required
- ASE certification preferred but not required
Physical Demands
The role requires predominantly walking or standing. Essential functions include:
- Talking, hearing, and using hands/fingers to handle or feel
- Reaching with hands and arms; climbing or balancing; stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling
- Frequently lifting and/or moving up to 50 pounds; occasionally lifting and/or moving up to 100 pounds
- Specific vision abilities: close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
Work Environment
The work environment includes:
- Primarily indoor work, with occasional outdoor exposure to weather conditions (e.g., installing batteries and wiper blades)
- Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, high/precarious places, toxic/caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, explosives, and vibration
- Moderate noise levels
Pay
Position is eligible for sales commission based on individual or store performance.
