Barry’s is the original strength and cardio interval fitness experience, founded in West Hollywood in 1998. Our classes alternate between weight training and treadmill running, focusing on different muscle groups each day to tone muscle, maximize fat loss, and boost metabolism for up to 48 hours post-workout.
About The Role
The General Manager leads a single Barry’s studio, overseeing operations, client experience, team management, and performance in a fast-paced, people-focused environment.
Responsibilities
- Studio Operations
- Oversee daily studio operations and management teams, including Front Desk, FuelBar, Retail, and Facilities.
- Drive studio performance, assess and meet key business metrics for studio, retail, and FuelBar, and make data-driven decisions.
- Manage labor schedules to ensure proper coverage and alignment with budgeted hours.
- Conduct regular studio inspections and manage projects to maintain clean, updated facilities, collaborating with local and corporate leadership on repairs and initiatives.
- Maintain an active presence in the studio, covering shifts as needed to model brand standards and mentor employees and managers.
- Assist with new studio openings when necessary.
- Team Leadership
- Manage communications between supervisors, peers, and subordinates to ensure all departments are supported and supplied.
- Partner with studio management to recruit, screen, and onboard new employees across all departments.
- Analyze training levels to ensure consistency and proficiency in Barry’s hospitality standards.
- Coach and motivate employees, conduct performance reviews, and address personnel concerns with the People and Culture (HR) Department.
- Partner with the Director of Operations to source and hire management candidates, develop talent pipelines, and boost engagement.
- Community Marketing and Studio Dynamics
- Collaborate with local and corporate marketing teams to ideate and implement brand initiatives that benefit clients and employees.
- Develop and adjust client and corporate acquisition strategies for the studio.
- Work with leadership to foster a unified studio culture and high staff engagement.
- Company Culture
- Uphold Barry’s community and culture standards, embodying the company’s mission, vision, and values daily.
- Represent the Barry’s brand within the studio and the local fitness community.
- Participate in community-building initiatives with your studio and regional teams.
Requirements
- 3-5 years of fitness management or relevant experience (e.g., hospitality, retail, food/beverage).
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management, or equivalent experience.
- Financial acumen to assess the impact of business decisions.
- Full-time availability during non-traditional hours, including early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to train, lead, motivate, and delegate to a team.
- Capacity to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.
- Strong collaboration skills with diverse personality types, departments, vendors, and clients.
- Exceptional written and oral communication, organization, and time management skills.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on customer satisfaction.
- Proven negotiation, mediation, and problem-solving abilities.
- Dependability, reliability, and a friendly, outgoing personality with a can-do attitude.
