About the role
Reporting to the Eastern General Liability Litigation Director, the GL Team Leader is responsible for managing a tenured staff resolving GL coverage, risk transfer, liability, and damages in compliance with corporate claim settlement policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Lead approximately 7 General Liability Litigation Claim Handlers with corresponding claim inventories
- Effectively train, coach, and develop staff to enable optimal job performance and the achievement of individual and professional goals
- Manage and direct claim investigation, liability determinations, disposition, and settlement in compliance with corporate claim settlement policies and procedures
- Manage and implement change, including explaining drivers and business goals
- Evaluate and manage staff performance
- Serve as a technical resource for General Liability Litigation Claim Handlers
- Understand and effectively analyze General Liability and/or personal lines coverage forms
- Lead and manage all levels of staff relative to experience, tenure, and professional development
- Demonstrate extensive knowledge of customer service drivers and the ability to resolve customer issues, needs, and concerns independently
- Apply experience with human resource policies and procedures, including their administration
- Utilize strong communication skills, both verbal and written, regardless of audience demographic
- Partner with internal and external customers, including Agents, Brokers, Sales, and Product teams
Requirements
- Prior high-exposure general liability claims and litigation experience strongly preferred
- Knowledge of contracts and contractual indemnification
- In-depth understanding of coverage and risk transfer, heading toward the development of strong coverage acumen
- College degree preferred
- Prior management experience strongly preferred
- Consistent high level of performance and achievement over career span
- CPCU, AIC, SCLA, or other professional designation, or working toward such designation, preferred
Schedule
This role can have a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement.
- Candidates who live near one of our office locations (Hartford, CT; San Antonio, TX; Scottsdale, AZ; Lake Mary, FL; Naperville, IL; Alpharetta, GA) will have the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).
- Candidates who do not live near an office will have a remote work arrangement, with the expectation of coming into an office as business needs arise.
For full-time, remote positions:
- High-speed broadband internet service is required; DSL, wireless, Wi-Fi, hotspots, fiber without a modem, and satellite are not recommended or supported.
- Internet provider-supplied modem/router/gateway must be hardwired to the Hartford-issued computer with an ethernet cable.

Pay
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency, and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition.
The annualized base pay range for this role is: $86,400 - $129,600.
