General Ledger Accountant
About the role
The Accountant (General Ledger) will play a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of the general ledger, ensuring accurate and timely month-end close processes, and supporting financial reporting in accordance with US GAAP and government contracting regulations (FAR/DFARS).
Responsibilities
- Support full-cycle month-end close activities, including preparing complex journal entries, reconciling balance sheet accounts, and analyzing income statement fluctuations.
- Support the development and maintenance of standardized reporting packages, operational metrics, and management dashboards to support leadership decision-making.
- Partner with operations to analyze inventory, Work in Process (WIP), overhead absorption, and manufacturing variances to support costing.
- Apply GAAP to emerging accounting matters and business transactions.
- Ensure accounting records are compliant with Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS).
- Segregate direct and indirect costs and monitor allowable vs. unallowable expenses.
- Coordinate with internal and external auditors, including DCAA auditors, by preparing audit schedules and providing detailed documentation for financial transactions.
- Drive efficiency by leveraging AI-powered accounting tools and automation to streamline close processes and develop KPI dashboards for executive leadership.
- Participate in establishing scalable processes, workflows, and accounting policies appropriate for sustained growth and increased operational complexity.
- Adhere to company quality and product safety requirements, as referenced in the existing job documentation.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
- 3–5 years of experience in general ledger accounting, preferably within the manufacturing or defense industry.
- Strong proficiency in US GAAP, experience with ERP systems (SAP), advanced Microsoft Excel skills (VLOOKUPs, Pivot Tables), and familiarity with data visualization tools.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, growth-driven environment.
- CPA or CPA candidate a plus.
- Experience with DCMA/DCAA or government contract accounting is preferred.
- U.S. citizenship is required.
