About the role
The General Laborer leads night shift field inspector duties, responsible for collecting samples, observation, and/or inspection of products or raw materials for laboratory analysis. This role takes on additional responsibility as Team Lead in the absence of the Supervisor/Manager and operates with a high degree of independence.
Responsibilities
- Collects samples of product or raw materials from containers, vessels, barges, trucks, and/or rail.
- Gathers samples at specified locations, documenting date, states of processing, and time intervals.
- Labels sample containers and related paperwork with location, date, and time of collection.
- Delivers samples to the laboratory for analysis and prepares samples, performing reduction and division as needed.
- Performs sample screening and related physical tests.
- Ensures all equipment and containers are organized and cleaned before and after use.
- Wears all required personal protective equipment (PPE) relevant for tasks at all times.
- Ensures compliance with local and federal safety processes and procedures during sample collection, screening, or delivery.
- Provides technical advice and support to Field Technicians; may train Junior Technicians as required.
- Serves as Team Leader when Supervisor and/or Manager are not present, training, motivating, and monitoring staff during the shift.
- Assists staff in completing tasks according to established work procedures.
- Works in partnership with other Technicians to solve client problems and meet quality and customer satisfaction standards.
- Assists Supervisor and/or Manager by ensuring each team member has sufficient information, resources, and materials to perform their job safely.
- May perform Preparation or Laboratory responsibilities as required by business needs.
- Maintains area housekeeping and cleanliness on a daily basis.
- Performs routine and non-routine equipment maintenance.
- Ensures all safety equipment is worn and safety procedures are followed while performing work, on-site, or delivering samples.
- Adheres to internal standards, policies, and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Associate degree or High School (GED) and equivalent years of experience required.
- Experience working in an Industrial, Laboratory, or Field Services setting with a focus on strict safety standards is an asset.
Qualifications
- A valid and current Driver’s license may be required if the role involves driving a company vehicle.
- May be required to obtain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Card).
- May be required to obtain a 24-hour surface Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) certificate; training is available through SGS.

Schedule
- Night shift: 5 PM to 5 AM
- Position requires occasional overtime.
