General Laborer

Location: Menasha, WI

Pay: $27.98 per hour, with shift differential and double time on Sundays. Employees have the potential to earn $70,000 in their first year.

Schedule

• 12-hour shifts: 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM or 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM (rotating)
• Rotating 8-hour shifts during the probationary period
• 24/7 facility

About the Role

As a General Laborer reporting to the Shift Supervisor, you will support the production environment within our manufacturing operations. Safety, quality, productivity, and a strong work ethic are core to Sonoco’s culture. You will perform tasks necessary to produce high-quality Sonoco products efficiently.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate closely with other departments and teams
• Make incremental process adjustments, monitor, and report quality results of manufactured products
• Use critical thinking and troubleshooting skills to set up new jobs and operate various machines
• Safely complete tasks including:
  • Operating mobile equipment, including a fork truck
  • Assisting with paper breaks
  • Creating parent rolls
  • Threading rewinder
  • Separating and packaging rolls after being slit on rewinder
  • Retrieving/staging roll products
  • Retrieving tape and other packaging supplies
  • Finishing and packaging product
  • Assisting during machine maintenance outages

Requirements

• Previous paper machine operating experience (preferred) or work experience in an industrial setting requiring physical labor
• Previous forklift experience (preferred)
• Basic computer skills and ability to read and use measuring devices
• Exceptional troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
• Proven history of excellent attendance, positive attitude, reliability, drive, quality focus, and commitment to safety
• Ability and availability to work all shifts on a rotating schedule
• Ability to work effectively with a team in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to read and understand manufacturing instructions
• Ability to perform repetitive duties, climb stairs, stand for long periods, work in hot or cold areas, multitask, lift 25 lbs. unassisted, and team lift 50 lbs.
• Ability to handle cold Wisconsin temperatures as well as hot and humid conditions from the paper machine and mill environment
