About the Role
This position is responsible for safely operating all cookers and reactors, sanitizing overhead hoists and cooling presses, filtering and packing rendered fat, and maintaining a clean and sanitary work environment. The role requires compliance with safety work rules, food safety and quality policies, and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate safety as a top priority; follow all safety procedures and actively determine ways to improve safety.
- Use lockout/tag out procedures when required.
- Maintain and operate all equipment in a safe manner to avoid injury to self or others.
- Keep work area neat, clean, and sanitary.
- Complete internal HACCP training and follow all SQF principles pertinent to the position.
- Report all food safety, quality issues, work-related injuries, or unsafe conditions to a supervisor immediately.
- Maintain good personal hygiene and follow instructions from supervisors.
- Cooperate with coworkers and other departments; be willing to fill in where needed.
- Watch and control the flow of product and minimize product loss.
- Reassemble machinery if taken apart and set up all equipment, including disintegrators, pumps, lines, and conveyors.
- Clean and sanitize all equipment.
- Assume personal responsibility to ensure a safe and healthy workplace for everyone.
- Adhere to all safety policies, quality work practices, and GMPs; maintain sanitary conditions and ensure product quality.
- Ensure regulatory compliance at all times.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Up to one month of related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to speak, read, and interpret documents in English (e.g., safety rules, operating instructions, procedure manuals).
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively before groups.
- Basic mathematical skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and computation of rate, ratio, and percent.
- Some computer skills with Microsoft Office and Google applications.
- Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Adaptability to constant changes in the workplace.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to sit, talk, actively listen, type, and work on a computer.
- Frequently required to stand and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
- Specific vision abilities required: close vision, distance vision, and color vision.
- Required to lift 10-50 lbs.
Work Environment
- Regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts.
- Occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; and extreme heat.
- Noise level in the work environment may be loud, requiring hearing protection.
- Must be able to work in 80 to 100-degree temperatures.
- Safety materials are provided; Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn where applicable (e.g., lab and production floor).
