About the role

The Physical Therapy Program at Chapman University hires lab assistants to support various courses, including:

  • PT 512L Kinesiology Lab
  • PT 525L Clin Path
  • PT 531 Gen Med
  • PT 539 Physical Agents
  • PT 578 Short Term Integrated Clinical Experience I – Community Exercise Program
  • PT 610 Anatomy II
  • PT 640 Neuro Practice Management
  • PT 641 Rehab
  • PT 647 Pediatrics
  • PT 678 Short Term Integrated Clinical Experience II – Stroke Boot Camp
  • PT 742 Geriatrics (including PD Boot Camp)
  • PT 758 Elective in PT

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and guide students in physical therapy examination and interventions, clinical reasoning, exercise progression, professional behavior, infection control, communication, safety, body positioning, vital signs monitoring, and documentation.
  • Provide formal and informal verbal and written feedback and assessments of student performance.
  • Proctor and grade lab practical exams.
  • Maintain lab facilities.
  • For PT 578 CEP, PT 678 Stroke Boot Camp, and PT 742 PD Boot Camp:
    • Act as a clinical instructor to mentor students through physical therapy interventions, patient education, clinical reasoning, exercise progression, professional behavior, communication, safety, body positioning, vital signs monitoring, and documentation.
    • Follow course clinical performance guidelines to assess student performance.
    • Monitor participants and implement emergency protocols if necessary.
    • Communicate with students, participants, families/caregivers, and course directors or coordinators regarding student or participant issues.
    • Review documentation, including student notes, and provide written/verbal feedback.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned by coordinators or course directors.

Requirements

  • Valid California PT License or eligibility for licensure.
  • MPT or DPT degree.
  • Knowledge of the PT profession, California Physical Therapy Practice Act, HIPAA/OSHA, and FERPA.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Professional etiquette and practice.
  • Prior experience working with populations served by the course content.
  • Ability to physically demonstrate classroom techniques and attend in-person labs.
  • Ability to physically attend and grade lab practicals, if applicable.
  • Successful completion of a background check; Live Scan required if working with minors.

Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of physical therapy in the specialty area relevant to pre-clinical program needs.
  • Previous clinical instructor or teaching experience preferred.
  • Strong interest and experience in rehabilitation of persons in acute care, orthopedic, neurological, and pediatric settings with various diagnoses.

Pay

$50.00 per hour.
