General Java Developer (Mid to Front End Stack)

About the role

The General Java Developer (Mid-to-Front-End Stack) role is intended to build up the Data Services team. The primary responsibilities include planning, conducting, and coordinating software development activities. This involves designing, developing, documenting, testing, and debugging software solutions using Java and other relevant technologies.

Responsibilities

• Plans, conducts, and coordinates software development activities.
• Designs, develops, documents, tests, and debugs software solutions to address business/mission problems or questions in computer language.
• Applies knowledge of computer hardware and software, subject matter to be programmed, information processing techniques, and user feedback to develop software.
• Corrects program errors, prepares operating instructions, compiles documentation of program development, and analyzes system capabilities to resolve questions regarding program intent, output requirements, input data acquisition, programming techniques, and controls.
• Ensures software standards are met.

Requirements

• Strong Linux/Unix development, integration, and troubleshooting background.
• Proven Java development experience, including multithreading.
• Ability to integrate, test, troubleshoot, and refactor software systems.

Desired Skills

• Advanced Java multithreading.
• Database experience (MongoDB, PostgreSQL, or comparable).
• Inter-process messaging middleware (gRPC, Artemis).
• Reactive programming (RxJava, Kotlin Coroutines, Flow).
• Performance-tuning tools (JVisualVM, JConsole, JProfiler).
• Containerization/orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, etc.).

Additional Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software/Computer/Electrical Engineering, or a related STEM discipline.
• Able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance, meaning you must be a U.S. citizen.
• Proactive/self-starter.
• Task-driven with the ability to work independently.
• Team player who can take ownership and foster team success.
