General Foreperson - Lafayette, LA

About the role

The General Foreperson coordinates crew members, equipment, tools, and supplies to complete all jobs efficiently, correctly, and profitably. Essential functions include following and enforcing safe practices, maintaining equipment, instructing employees, and managing crew members.

Responsibilities

• Follow and enforce safe practices and rules
• Keep utility company representatives informed of crew members and equipment
• Establish and monitor systems for proper maintenance and cleanliness of all equipment and facilities
• Promptly dispatch crews to job sites
• Instruct employees on safety regulations and ensure compliance
• Operate and instruct on all equipment and materials safely
• Maintain first aid equipment and investigate accidents
• Hire, train, and discipline employees
• Determine workable hours and approve time submitted by employees
• Maintain good morale and handle grievances
• Determine efficient ways to handle each job based on factors like location, season, crew availability, equipment, materials, etc.
• Control productivity and utilize equipment to its fullest
• Ensure sufficient materials and equipment for each job
• Store equipment and materials safely each night
• Ensure proper driving cards and certifications for employees
• Perform storm work duties as needed

Requirements

• At least 5 years’ prior experience in electric utility vegetation management, construction, logging, landscaping, mechanical, or military industries preferred; previous experience as a General Foreperson preferred
• High School diploma or equivalent preferred
• Strong organizational skills
• Driver’s License and ability to safely drive a company vehicle
• Ability to work outdoors under varying and sometimes adverse weather conditions
• First-aid certification and CPR
• Effective communication skills
• Ability to travel out of town for storm restoration work when needed
