About the role

Austin Industrial provides premier self-perform maintenance, construction, and soft craft service to leading industrial companies across the U.S. This position supervises and coordinates skilled and unskilled workers on various construction projects such as highway structures, right-of-way clearing, pile driving, subgrade preparation, road surfacing, curb installation, underground utilities, traffic control, concrete paving, and related lime and dirt work. The role focuses on scheduling work safely, adhering to plans and specifications, and meeting estimated costs while maintaining relationships with inspectors, developers, vendors, and subcontractors.

Responsibilities

  • Review contract documents, submittals, shop drawings, and schematics to determine work scope, materials, and manpower requirements by craft for each construction phase.
  • Execute Work Plans for major work components and monitor adherence.
  • Order self-perform materials, supplies, and small tools from approved suppliers, ensuring timely requisition of needed materials and equipment.
  • Monitor daily labor costs and production rates for accuracy and conformance with budgets; take corrective action to improve productivity.
  • Encourage craftsmen to develop innovative methods for increasing efficiency, productivity, and profitability; provide feedback and coaching.
  • Execute hourly time card reporting and maintain all equipment assigned to the crew, including preventive maintenance training for operators.
  • Provide a detailed daily construction plan and a general weekly plan; manage work to stay within schedule.
  • Schedule all QA/QC inspections required for owner acceptance of work.
  • Inspect work in progress to ensure it meets established tolerances; take corrective action when standards are not maintained.
  • Manage the crew into an effectively coordinated unit, fostering a motivating atmosphere and promoting training and development.
  • Recommend personnel actions such as promotions, discharges, and disciplinary measures; initiate plans to motivate workers.
  • Supervise subcontractors to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and schedules.
  • Conduct Tool Box and JHA Safety Meetings to instruct employee-owners on accident prevention topics.
  • Enforce all safety regulations and company policies; maintain constant awareness of safety conditions.
  • Investigate alternative work methods and materials to improve efficiency and work quality; resolve issues as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with plans and specifications; perform tasks associated with project completion, including closeout punch lists and demobilization.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate daily reports of all field construction activities.
  • Ensure equipment is used for its intended purpose correctly; interpret company policies to workers.
  • Conduct on-the-job training for qualified personnel and record hours on the Foreman’s Daily Control.
  • Complete the Foreman’s Daily Control with employee-owners’ hours, job numbers, cost codes, and quantities.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Manage skilled and semi-skilled hourly employee-owners.
  • Oversee a small onsite equipment fleet.
  • Recruit hourly trade personnel.
  • Execute “Look Ahead” schedules and manage craftsmen, equipment, and material resources.
  • Handle logistics planning and execute project Work Plans.
  • Ensure work crews operate productively and efficiently to meet daily cost objectives.
  • Provide training and manage purchasing of unincorporated materials, tools, and supplies.
  • Maintain a safe workplace and ensure quality of work.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of industrial and supervisory experience preferred.
  • Certifications/Licenses: NCCER, TWIC, and Driver’s License (DL).
  • No minimum education requirements.
  • Legally authorized to work for any employer in the United States; Austin Industrial is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for this position.

Physical, Mental & Environmental Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, and use hands and fingers to perform assigned duties.
  • May require lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 50 pounds.
  • Work at elevations, on uneven surfaces, or in confined spaces.
  • Sufficient visual, hearing, communication, and motor skills to safely perform job responsibilities.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and follow safety procedures, work instructions, and company policies.
  • Exercise sound judgment, solve problems, maintain attention to detail, manage stress, and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Work in industrial and construction environments with exposure to weather conditions, temperature extremes, noise, dust, fumes, moving equipment, vibration, and other site-specific hazards.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and meet all customer, site, regulatory, medical, and fitness-for-duty requirements.
  • Perform all job duties while maintaining a constant commitment to safety, quality, and productivity expectations.
