General Foreman - 2nd Shift
About the role
Mueller Water Products, Inc. is the nation's leading manufacturer of flow control devices for the water and gas distribution industries and has an immediate opening for a 2nd Shift General Foreman at our Chattanooga, TN facility.
Responsibilities
- Direct production operations in accordance with established priorities and sequences for manufacturing products using knowledge of production processes and methods, machine and equipment capabilities, and skilled labor.
- Lead and mentor the production supervisors to ensure goals are met and to instill professional development.
- Makes capacity analyses by specific work center and makes capital equipment recommendations, also implementing flow manufacturing techniques where appropriate.
- Maintains timekeeping and personnel records including but not limited to, vacation and time off requests and progressive discipline.
- Partner with Operations Managers, Supervisors, Production Planning, and Materials departments to establish production schedules, combat production issues, and offer suggestions for changes in production conditions.
- Absides by ISO requirements and safety procedures in meeting or exceeding goals established for safety, labor efficiencies, schedule attainment, scrap, rework, and any other production related goals.
- Serve as a liaison between management and employees to resolve issues and concerns.
- Supervise and assist in the setup, operation, troubleshooting and maintenance of production equipment.
- Initiate, suggest, and implement plans to motivate, empower, and develop workers to achieve work goals in a team environment while complying with all quality policies, specifications, regulations and instructions.
- Remain flexible in lean technique implementation and principles such as 5S, standardized work, waste identification and elimination, value stream mapping, team based multi-skilled workforce, one-piece flow technology, visual factory concepts, and total productive maintenance.
- Ensure that all employees are following proper safety protocols including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and equipment.
Requirements
- Strong, proven leadership background leading employees in a manufacturing environment.
- Intermediate computer skills including the use of Office Suite and especially Excel and Outlook.
- Ability to operate with a sense of urgency and distribute time sensitive and accurate data.
- Comfortable coaching, developing, and holding others accountable.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully achieve goals through influence.
- Understanding and ability to drive LEAN principles.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints in addition to being able to machine from those prints.
- Ability to assess, perform, and train others production processes and equipment.
Skills
- Technical expertise in manufacturing.
- Organized and detail orientated.
- Able to communicate in an effective manner with all levels of employees.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field of work or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
- At least 5 to 10 years of supervisory experience is required.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Preferred: Experience using JD Edwards E1 ERP system a major plus.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including, but not limited to, safety glasses, steel-toed or metatarsal-guarded shoes, and/or ear plugs, while working in an industrial and/or manufacturing environment.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, and reach within hands and/or arm’s length.
- Ability to stoop, kneel, and crouch.
- Ability to reach overhead or at or below shoulder level.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects between 25 and 50 pounds in weight in all directions.
- Ability to remain in stationary or standing position for prolonged periods and to alternate between positions as necessary.
- Ability to perform close visual inspections of products, which may include specific vision requirements.
- Ability to work in an open warehouse environment, subject to seasonal weather (hot/cold).
- Ability to constantly communicate with others to exchange information in person, via phone, or via use of computer.
- Ability to safely drive/operate motorized equipment/PIT.
