Responsibilities
- Provides high-quality, patient-centered, culturally responsive dental care in an in-person community health setting.
- Primarily provides dental services to pediatric patients, while also providing preventive, diagnostic, restorative, urgent, and ongoing dental care to adult patients within the provider’s approved scope of practice and granted clinical privileges.
- Evaluates and treats adult patients within the scope of their California dental license and clinical privileges.
- Interprets and documents clinical radiographs (bitewing, periapical, panoramic, occlusal).
- Prescribes medications within license, privileges, and applicable law.
- Refers to specialists as clinically indicated.
- Carefully documents all patient encounters in the Clinic’s electronic health record (EHR) system.
- Complies with Clinic infection control, patient safety, and quality improvement protocols.
- Participates in peer review, quality assurance, and utilization review activities as required.
- Complies with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including HIPAA.
Requirements
- Licensure and Education: Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) from an accredited dental school, active, unrestricted California dental license in good standing, no disciplinary actions, restrictions, or probationary conditions on California dental license.
- Certifications and Registrations: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification, DEA registration if prescribing controlled substances, CURES registration if prescribing controlled substances.
- Clinical Competence: Demonstrated competence and experience treating pediatric dental patients, ability to provide general dental services to adult patients within the scope of their California dental license and clinical privileges, ability to perform urgent and emergency dental care.
- Credentialing and Compliance: Eligibility for FQHC credentialing and privileging, eligibility for payer enrollment, not currently excluded, debarred, or sanctioned from participation in federal health care programs, ability to meet all occupational health requirements, ability to work in person at T.H.E Clinic’s California location(s) for all contracted service days.

Skills
- Experience working in an FQHC, community health center, public health clinic, school-based health center, or other safety-net dental setting.
- Pediatric-focused dental experience or additional training in pediatric dentistry.
- Completion of a General Practice Residency (GPR), Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD), pediatric dental residency, or comparable postdoctoral training.
- Experience treating children and youth with special health care needs (CYSHCN), including patients with physical, developmental, behavioral, or medical complexity.
- Bilingual Spanish language proficiency (speaking, reading, and writing) preferred given the patient population served.
- Familiarity with Medi-Cal/Denti-Cal billing, documentation, and compliance requirements.
- Familiarity with FQHC workflows, sliding fee schedules, and community health center operations.
- Experience with eClinicalWorks EHR systems.
