About the role
The General Counsel’s Office at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) seeks a paralegal to support attorneys and staff in the General Law Group. The General Law Group handles a variety of legal matters including environmental law, employment law, litigation, and export control.Responsibilities
- Perform factual investigations; conduct legal research; draft basic legal documents including memoranda and motions; propound and respond to written discovery; prepare for depositions, motion hearings, and trial.
- Manage eDiscovery for complex cases (e.g., identifying, preserving, and culling data) and maintain electronic matter management systems and files.
- Utilize current technologies and software programs with proficiency, as well as ECF filing procedures in federal and state (NM) court.
- Act as an agent for supervising attorneys consistent with the rules governing professional responsibility for lawyers and paralegals.
Requirements
- Experience in document (paper and electronically-stored information) identification, collection, review, production, and document management.
- Demonstrated ability to work as a part of a team and independently, under pressure and with minimal supervision.
- Experience working on multiple projects with conflicting and often changing priorities and deadlines.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
- Excellent organization and writing skills.
- Ability to effectively interact with outside counsel and clients as well as staff at all levels.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
- Willingness and ability to become proficient with various legal and matter management software (e.g., Litify, NetDocuments, Nintex).
- Proofreading and cite-checking skills.
Qualifications
- Minimum Education/Experience: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution and 3 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
- Additional Qualifications for Paralegal 3: Experience with the rules, requirements, and procedures set by federal or state boards, courts, and administrative bodies related to their particular area of practice; Graduate degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience; Demonstrated ability to utilize legal research tools (e.g., Westlaw) and AI-enabled solutions; Experience with complex litigation, including construction, class action, employment, and environmental litigation; Experience in eDiscovery workflows and review platforms/software.
