General Counsel
About the role
This role is central to Standard Bots' commercial operations, spanning sales, partnerships, and procurement. It involves owning the entire contract lifecycle, building playbooks and processes to expedite deal closures, and serving as the primary legal advisor for all legal matters within the company.
Responsibilities
Draft, review, and negotiate customer agreements, NDAs, supply agreements, reseller agreements, and supplier documents, often with Fortune 500 enterprises and defense primes.
Standardize terms and conditions and develop a contract clause playbook, including standard positions, acceptable fallbacks, and escalation triggers for common terms.
Negotiate data processing agreements, privacy terms, and AI-use provisions; support compliance with defense customer requirements such as DFARS, CMMC, and NIST SP 800-171.
Support international expansion by handling subsidiary formation, cross-border contracting, and coordinating with local counsel in new markets.
Manage employment matters, including agreement templates, multi-state restrictive covenant issues, and dispute resolution alongside outside counsel.
Support strategic transactions, including due diligence and IP-related deal terms.
Act as the primary point of contact for legal inquiries across the company, managing outside counsel scope and costs.
Requirements
J.D. and admission to practice in New York (with relevant experience in other jurisdictions).
6-10 years of experience with a strong focus on commercial contracts and technology transactions, preferably with both law firm and in-house experience.
Experience with hardware, industrial technology, robotics, or manufacturing companies, understanding physical products, supply chains, and product liability.
Proven ability to negotiate directly with sophisticated counterparties, including large enterprise legal teams.
Excellent communication skills, able to explain legal risks clearly to non-lawyers.
Reliable availability to work on-site in Manhattan or Glen Cove three days per week.
Qualifications
Government contracting experience (DFARS flowdowns, CMMC, NIST SP 800-171) is a plus.
Employment law or employment litigation management experience is a plus.
International experience (entity formation, cross-border agreements, or expansion into new markets) is a plus.
Data privacy expertise (DPA negotiation, GDPR/state privacy laws) is a plus.
Corporate/M&A or venture transaction experience is a plus.
Skills
Strong negotiation skills, particularly with large enterprise legal teams.
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritize effectively.
Knowledge of robotics safety standards (OSHA, ANSI/RIA R15.06) is beneficial.
Experience building a legal function from scratch at a high-growth startup is a plus.
Benefits
The salary range for this role is $205,800 to $265,000, based on experience. We offer a competitive compensation package including base salary, employee stock options, and a comprehensive benefits package.
