About the role

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them in clean, sanitary, and orderly condition and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Responsibilities

  • High Dusting: Using a treated high duster, clean in a counter‑clockwise direction around the room — high‑dust surfaces above shoulder height (lights above doors, curtain tips, vents, ledges). Gently brush the duster downward into the service cart to clean it.
  • Sanitizing / Spot Cleaning: Using a germicidal solution, work counter‑clockwise around the room sanitizing surfaces below shoulder height (ledges, chairs, telephones, countertops, trash cans). Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls. Spot‑clean windows with the proper solution.
  • Bathroom Cleaning: Using germicidal solution, wipe down in order: above and below sink; toilet seat and outside of bowl; inside of toilet with a Johnnie Mop and germicidal solution, paying attention to the rim. Clean and check soap and paper dispensers daily; refill as needed.
  • Empty Trash Cans: If liquid is present, remove liner and wipe the can. Place a clean liner in each can.
  • Floor Dusting or Vacuuming: Using a treated dust mop, start at the back of the room with an “S” stroke to catch dust on the leading edge. Dust under all furniture and in restrooms, stopping just inside the door. Clean the mop head with a counter brush (downward stroke) and sweep dust into a dustpan for disposal in the service cart. When vacuuming, start at the back and work toward the door, getting under chairs and other furniture.
  • Grounds Care (Outside Areas): Clean and check several times daily:
    • Empty and clean ash urns and trash cans.
    • Police sidewalks, flower beds, and curb lines for trash and cigarette butts.
    • Spot‑clean spills on sidewalks; remove gum with a scraper.
    • Wipe benches and vending machines; wipe lower window ledges.
    • High‑dust for dust and cobwebs.
    • Clean public‑area glass as necessary.
    • Police parking lot for trash.
  • Public Common Areas: Dust‑mop and spot‑mop main hallways. Ensure:
    • Glass is cleaned several times daily.
    • Planters are cleaned and free of bird waste inside and out.
    • High‑dust window areas at least twice per week; check all corners and edges for dirt, cobwebs, and debris.
  • Food Court: Clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables; place chairs back under tables. Spot‑clean spills. Empty and clean trash cans. Remove accumulated dirty trays to the wash room and clean using the tray power washer; stack clean trays on shelf for reuse. Police outside eating areas.
  • Floor Sanitizing: Using the proper germicidal solution, start at the back of the room. Mop under furniture and behind doors as you back out.
  • Your Inspection: After completing a room, mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement. Make corrections as needed to prevent problems or complaints. Hall, lobby, stairs, water fountains, furniture, wall spotting, and high dusting are done daily.
  • Customer Relations and Service: Knock lightly before entering occupied rooms. Be friendly and cheerful. Answer questions helpfully and courteously or refer to someone who can. Report anything broken or out of order to your supervisor. Work and speak quietly; reduce or eliminate noise. Stay in your assigned area unless directed otherwise. Loud talking, laughing, etc. is never acceptable. Maintain a clean, neat personal appearance. If work is not completed by end of shift, report to your supervisor. Always be courteous.
  • Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned or directed by supervisor and/or Account Manager (may include floor care — stripping and waxing, carpet extraction and bonneting, auto‑scrub and buffing).
