To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them clean, sanitary and orderly, and to perform other tasks related to the area of assignment.
Essential Responsibilities
- High Dusting: Using a treated high duster, begin cleaning in a counter‑clockwise direction around the room—high dust surfaces above shoulder height (lights above doors, curtain tips, vents, ledges). Clean the high duster by gently brushing it downward into the service cart.
- Sanitizing / Spot Cleaning: Apply a germicidal solution, work counter‑clockwise around the room, sanitizing surfaces below shoulder height (ledges, chairs, telephone, countertops, trash cans). Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls, and spot‑clean windows.
- Bathroom Cleaning: Using germicidal solution, wipe in order: above and below sink, toilet seat and outside of bowl, inside of bowl with a Johnnie Mop and germicidal solution (pay special attention to the rim). Clean and check soap and paper dispensers daily; refill as needed.
- Empty Trash Cans: If liquid is present, remove the liner and wipe the can, then place a clean liner.
- Floor Dusting or Vacuuming: With a treated dust mop head, start at the back of the room using an “S” stroke, dust under all furniture and in restrooms, then clean the mop head with a downward brush stroke and sweep dust into a dustpan. When vacuuming, start at the back and work toward the door, getting under chairs and other furniture.
- Grounds Care – Outside Areas:
- Empty and clean ash urns and trash cans.
- Police sidewalks, flower beds, and curb line for trash and cigarette butts; spot‑clean spills, remove gum with a scraper.
- Wipe benches, vending machines, lower window ledges; high dust for dust and cobwebs; clean public‑area glass as needed.
- Police parking lot for trash.
- Public Common Areas: Dust‑mop and spot‑mop main hallways; clean glass several times daily; clean planters inside and out; high dust window areas at least twice per week; check corners and edges for debris.
- Food Court: Clean, remove trash and sanitize tables; return chairs; spot‑clean spills; empty and clean trash cans; remove dirty trays to washroom and clean with tray power washer; stack clean trays for recycling; police outside eating areas.
- Floor Sanitizing: Apply proper germicidal solution, start at the back of the room, mop under furniture and behind doors while backing out.
- Inspection: After completing a room, mentally review cleaning steps and visually check furniture placement, making corrections as needed. Perform daily high dusting, wall spotting, and cleaning of hall, lobby, stairs, water fountains, and furniture.
