General Aircraft Mechanic (SHORT TERM)

This is a short-term role supporting the X-59 Project.

About the role

A General Aircraft Mechanic performs scheduled and unscheduled aircraft maintenance according to applicable standards across the NASA fleet of aircraft, simulators, and Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), and associated payload systems. Compliance with all mandated certification requirements, including safety training, guidance on local processes, and general project orientation is required.

Responsibilities

• Use NASA’s automated maintenance data system (NAMIS) to maintain equipment records and document maintenance actions for all repairs to NASA-assigned aircraft.
• Perform maintenance on aircraft, including mechanical systems and/or ground support equipment (GSE).
• Familiarity with Engineering Work Orders (EWOs) and ability to complete required instructions in a timely and accurate manner.
• Remove, disassemble, repair, clean, treat for corrosion, assemble, and reinstall aircraft components and accessories.
• Practice good housekeeping, tool control, and Foreign Object Damage (FOD) prevention in accordance with company and NASA policies and procedures.
• Perform scheduled and unscheduled aircraft maintenance inspections and repairs as required.
• Perform aircraft ground support duties, including towing, marshalling, and jacking aircraft.
• Document maintenance as per Quality Assurance (QA) and established regulatory requirements.
• Comply with safety rules and regulations while performing day-to-day maintenance.
• Promptly report all accidents, injuries, safety violations, and/or unsafe practices or procedures to supervisor.
• Perform other ancillary duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum of two years of aircraft maintenance experience with fixed-wing commercial, Government, or DOD aircraft.
• Communication skills required to interface and coordinate with Operations engineers and other technically qualified personnel.
• Physically capable of working in confined spaces.
• Capable of performing physical labor including walking, standing, lifting up to 40 lbs., pulling, climbing up and down aircraft ladders, and demonstrating agility/dexterity to perform duties assigned.
• Must be able to pass a NASA-administered physical.
• Possess a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe and Powerplant certification or obtain one within 1 year of hire date.
• Ability to obtain and maintain an active secret clearance.

Schedule

Must be able to work 10-hour shifts Friday – Monday (6am-4:30pm) with possible overtime.

Pay

Pay rate for this role is $52.11 per hour.
