Responsibilities

• Plans, conducts, implements, and monitors general recreation, personal development, structured therapeutic, and entertainment activities (e.g., softball, basketball, volleyball, ping-pong, arts and crafts, woodworking, swimming, exercises) for inmates.
• Serves as a member of an interdisciplinary team; analyzes, assesses, evaluates, defines, and recommends group and/or individual treatment goals and activities.
• Observes participants during activities and serves in an instructional capacity for inmates.
• Prepares and maintains work-related documentation, including reports for treatment teams regarding individual behavior and progress, implementation records of recreational program activities, statistical records for program evaluation, supply and equipment requisitions, production records, inventory records of equipment/tools/materials, and weekly activity schedules.
• Performs security functions as required (e.g., man-down, shakedown, inmate movement).
• Participates in and attends meetings, conferences, and/or training sessions; consults with members of the activities therapy department on matters of mutual concern.
• Maintains clean, safe, and functioning work areas; performs various work-related tasks.
• Responsible for storage, issuance, and maintenance of supplies; picks up and delivers production goods.
• Performs job and fixture set-up; relieves supervisor in their absence.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• 30 months of experience with coaching, personal training, and/or fitness instruction, or
• 30 months of experience providing work direction to incarcerated persons and training and/or development, or
• Completion of an associate degree in recreation plus 12 months of experience in activity therapy or recreation, or
• Completion of an undergraduate core program in recreation plus 6 months of experience in activity therapy or recreation, or
• 6 months of experience as a General Activities Therapist 1 (Job Code 44211), or
• An equivalent combination of the minimum qualifications listed above.
