About the role
The White Earth Reservation Business Committee is seeking a qualified applicant to perform family history research and solve genealogical problems. This role requires extensive professional genealogical research skills and the ability to investigate complex family history issues.
Responsibilities
- Conduct genealogical and blood quantum research.
- Communicate with internal and external sources to represent the program and organization professionally.
- Perform effective and efficient genealogical research at various archives, libraries, and online.
- Conduct in-house research using family history records and the membership database to ensure files comply with program guidelines, policies, and the MCT Enrollment Ordinance.
- Analyze and solve complicated genealogical problems, especially those lacking direct evidence or requiring difficult evidence analysis.
- Analyze primary and secondary documents, including vital records, census data, church records, military records, estate records, and land records, with a focus on Native American history.
- Update, scan, and maintain White Earth Reservation enrollment data, including files, blood degree corrections, name changes, and family history.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree in Anthropology (preferred) or a high school diploma/GED with two years of experience in technical research, history, or genealogy.
- One year of budgeting experience (preferred).
- Three or more years of experience handling highly confidential information.
- Ability to travel for business-related purposes.
- Must pass a drug screen at hire and throughout employment per White Earth RBC Policy.
- Valid driver’s license and insurance for travel between sites and related businesses.
Skills
- Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures, including word processing, file management, transcription, and office terminology.
- Proficiency with personal computers and related software, such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Knowledge of MCT/White Earth culture, customs, resources, and traditions, or willingness to learn.
- Ability to synthesize information to form general rules or conclusions.
- Strong report writing and business correspondence skills.
- Ability to organize work efficiently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously.

$26.23 per hour
