About the role

Gattitown Lexington is seeking a motivated University of Kentucky student to join our team as a Hospitality & Business Management Intern. This internship is ideal for a student pursuing a degree in hospitality management, business management, marketing, operations, or a related field who would like hands-on experience managing a busy family entertainment and restaurant operation. The intern will work alongside Gattitown’s management team and gain practical experience in customer service, employee leadership, food-service operations, event coordination, marketing, inventory management, and daily business operations. This is not a desk-only internship; the selected student will be actively involved in the operation of the restaurant, buffet, arcade, birthday parties, group events, and guest-service areas.

Responsibilities

• Assisting managers with daily opening, operating, and closing procedures
• Supporting and motivating employees throughout their shifts
• Helping maintain excellent customer-service standards
• Assisting with birthday parties, group events, and special promotions
• Learning how staffing schedules are created based on business needs
• Participating in employee training and onboarding
• Assisting with inventory counts, product ordering, and loss prevention
• Reviewing sales, labor, and operational reports with management
• Helping identify opportunities to improve guest satisfaction and efficiency
• Assisting with marketing ideas, community outreach, and social media content
• Helping ensure the restaurant, buffet, game room, and party areas are clean, safe, and properly staffed
• Completing an internship project related to hospitality, operations, marketing, employee engagement, or business growth

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled at the University of Kentucky
• Pursuing a degree in hospitality management, business management, marketing, communications, or a related field
• Interested in leadership, restaurant management, event planning, or family entertainment
• Friendly, dependable, organized, and willing to learn
• Comfortable interacting with guests, employees, children, and families
• Able to communicate professionally and work as part of a team
• Able to remain calm and make good decisions in a fast-paced environment
• Willing to work some evenings or weekends to experience the business during peak operating hours
• Previous restaurant, retail, customer-service, or leadership experience is helpful but not required

Schedule

The schedule can be developed around the student’s class schedule and internship requirements. Some evening and weekend availability may be required because those are important operating periods for our business. Approximately 15–35 hours per week are preferred, although hours may be adjusted based on the student’s academic program and availability.
