About the role

The VA Texas Valley Coastal Bend Health Care System is seeking a part-time Gastroenterologist to provide comprehensive care for patients who have illnesses within the scope of Gastroenterology, with a focus on patients with hepatitis. The physician may have responsibilities in other areas such as, education and research.

Responsibilities

  • Provide primary, secondary, and tertiary care in both hospitalized and outpatient settings, identifying patients' health problems and designing diagnostic and therapeutic plans to meet these needs.
  • Coordinate activities of other health service personnel, resolve problems affecting patient care, and provide appropriate education for the patient/family members regarding the patient's care, patient's illness, and its management.
  • Perform diagnostic and therapeutic upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy and colonoscopy procedures, including liver biopsy, small bowel biopsy, esophageal dilation, endoscopic ultrasonography, and placement of esophageal stents.

Requirements

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP).

Qualifications

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
  • Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Board Certified in Gastroenterology and/or Internal Medicine.
  • Three to five years of Gastroenterologist experience, preferably in VA or the Department of Defense.
  • Advanced skills to provide a full range of Gastroenterology evaluations to determine the type of degree of illnesses within the Gastroenterology scope.
