About the role
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.
Responsibilities
Duties will include, but are not limited to the following:
- Provide direct patient care specific to subspecialty in the inpatient and ambulatory clinic settings.
- Provide timely screening and resolution of consultations from other disciplines in the inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Clinical duties include diagnosing, treating and managing patients referred for management of GI disorders including liver disease, Hepatitis C, and liver transplants based on standard and customary methods and techniques in both the outpatient and inpatient setting.
- Procedural duties include performing diagnostic and therapeutic upper and lower endoscopy procedures, PEG placement, esophageal dilation.
- Responsible for administration and management of moderate/conscious sedation used during procedures.
- Order diagnostic tests and discriminate between normal and abnormal findings and makes appropriate treatment decisions.
- Documentation of care in the medical record in keeping with the bylaws of the Medical Center. Responsible for completing patient encounters, inpatient and outpatient consults, notes, and correctly coding visits in accordance with coding guidelines.
- Provide supervisory oversight residents, fellows, medical students, NP/PA students, as appropriate, who are assigned to the GI Service.
- Participates effectively in team meetings and treatment planning conferences and collaborates with multidisciplinary team members in a manner that enhances coordination of comprehensive patient care.
- The physician will report to the Chief of GI and will be expected to cooperate with and participate in medical duties or functions related to quality of care, peer review, serving on facility committees and other performance improvement activities and other duties as assigned.
- Board Certification is required for this position.
