About the role

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.

Responsibilities

• Serves as Supervisory Chief of the section as needed.
• Participates in an on-call schedule as the facility requires even when not on duty.
• Responds to all pages or patient care notifications within 30 minutes as per VHA directives when on duty as well as local facility policy.
• Reports in person within 60 minutes of notification to address any patient care issues or to provide coverage.
• Guides and supports Advanced Practice Practitioners (APPs - NPs or PAs) in their respective areas of expertise.
• Guides and supervises medical students and residents (interns, residents, and/or fellows) assigned to Medicine Service according to the standards outlined in Medical Center Memorandum, 11-4, "Supervision of Postgraduate Residents," when assigned to do so by the Chief, Medicine Service.
• Identifies individual professional learning needs and participates in formal programs, workshops, seminars, conferences, as well as self-directed learning activities, completes facility-wide mandatory education yearly.
• Performs additional duties as assigned by the Chief of Medicine as it may relate to scope of practice and/or privileges.
• Provides quality patient care to both inpatients and outpatients for adults age 18-65 and older adults age 65+ as assigned by Chief, Medicine Service.
• Maintains clinical privileges and board certification in the areas of his/her expertise and in all areas required to carry out the duties of his/her assignments/responsibilities within Medicine Services.
• Demonstrates sound decision-making skills, both clinical and administrative, which bring credit to the profession and serve to enhance the distinctive and contributory role of physicians.
• Facilitates the delivery of appropriate patient care in collaboration with other health professionals, medical center staff, and management.
• Serves as staff attending for sub-specialty consult service as assigned.
• Participates in multidisciplinary activities involving the treatment plan and discharge plans of patients admitted to the Medicine bed services.
• Works without direct supervision, but is administratively and clinically responsible to the Chief, Medicine Service.

Qualifications

• United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
• Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
• Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
• Board Certification: Must be board certified.
