Gas Survey Technician - KC

About the role

Southern Cross is hiring for a full‑time Field Service Technician who will survey natural gas pipelines and drive the Advanced Mobile Leak Detection (AMLD) vehicle. The dual role requires flexibility to work days or nights, with driving assignments lasting from 3 days to 6 months (primarily at night) and gas‑leak survey assignments primarily during the day. Travel is required up to 75 % of the time; technicians fly or drive to assignments based on distance from home project and receive per‑diem, paid travel and hotel expenses. Initial training is 4‑5 weeks (paid) covering AMLD operation and traditional leak survey techniques, including walking 5 + miles per day in varied outdoor environments.

Responsibilities

• Successfully complete all Operator Qualification training and testing for meter work/meter reading.
• Travel up to 75 % of the time, including occasional weekends.
• Fly or drive to assignments anywhere in the U.S.
• Mechanically inclined; troubleshoot technology as needed.
• Drive in all‑weather conditions.
• Adhere to safety and quality policies and procedures.
• Operate the survey vehicle at 15 mph for up to 4 hours straight between breaks.

Requirements

• Ability to sit and drive 8 hours per day.
• Bending, crouching, kneeling, and walking several miles per day.
• Carry a minimum of 20 lbs. of equipment.
• Effective customer communication with courteous, excellent service.
• Follow all company/client procedures.
