About the Role
The Gas Skilled Laborer/Groundman supports the crew by assisting with the installation and repair of gas lines. This position performs a variety of physical construction tasks, including site preparation, concrete placement and finishing, equipment operation support, excavation assistance, and general labor activities. Candidates with concrete finishing experience to support utility, civil, and construction projects are strongly preferred. The ideal candidate has experience working outdoors in demanding conditions and maintains a strong commitment to safety and productivity.
Responsibilities
- Distribute material at job site.
- Hand locate existing utilities.
- Hand grade landscape areas.
- Safely operate equipment, such as rubber-tired backhoe, skid steer loader, directional drill, trencher, asphalt paving machine, etc.
- Utilize equipment after the Operator digs the ditch line for gas mains.
- Lift heavy natural gas pipelines for installation, when needed.
- Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum High school diploma, or equivalent.
- 1 year of gas utility construction experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- 2 or more years of gas utility construction experience.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This job operates in a field environment and routinely requires extended periods of bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, lifting in awkward positions, standing, and twisting. Work may occur in inclement weather conditions, such as extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind.
- Physically active, with lifting required.
- Must be able to bend and lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more or 20 inches or less, with the ability to judge distance and space relationships.
- Precise hand-eye coordination.
- Ability to identify and distinguish colors.
