About the role

The Florida Public Service Commission (FPSC) seeks a Gas Safety Inspector to ensure that utilities' gas distribution systems adhere to safety standards. This position involves conducting inspections and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the analysis and evaluation of utilities' gas distribution systems to ensure adequate safety measures are in place.
  • Evaluate gas distribution equipment and apparatus to ensure appropriate design, materials, and application.
  • Determine if installations comply with state and federal rules.
  • Complete Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) Natural Gas Training courses within three years.
  • Travel to Oklahoma for up to a week per course to complete training.
  • Conduct extensive vehicle travel, sometimes overnight, for gas safety field inspections.
  • Work irregular hours and be available for emergencies.

Requirements

  • Four years of relevant work experience in engineering, accounting, finance, mathematics, statistics, public administration, business administration, or economics.
  • An associate degree and two years of relevant work experience, or a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, may substitute for the years of required experience.
  • Candidates must reside in Miami-Dade, Broward, or Palm Beach counties.
  • Knowledge in the gas safety industry or completion of PHMSA TQ Training for Natural Gas Safety is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Must have the ability to complete PHMSA Natural Gas Training courses within three years.
  • Must be willing to travel to Oklahoma for training.
  • Must be able to travel extensively, sometimes overnight, for inspections.
  • Must be available for irregular work hours and emergencies.
