About the role

USIC is America’s leader in underground utility damage prevention and advanced infrastructure services, performing more than 84 million locates each year for telecommunications, electric, gas, water, and sewer utilities and municipalities nationwide. Our Advanced Gas Operations (AGO) division provides dedicated service to our gas customers. Our technicians spend their workdays on the go, independently working in the field using their company-provided vehicle. We use best-in-class ticket and claims management systems to ensure clear and complete mark-out services for the excavator or property owner at the work site. This is a daytime, full-time position with a 48-hour turnaround time on many locates, meaning work may be required the day after holidays and some weekends as needed.

Responsibilities

• Use locating equipment to determine the location of gas lines in a designated area and mark the area with paint and flags to prevent damage to utility infrastructure.
• Perform hand digging to unearth gas lines when required.
• Develop knowledge and understanding of underground utility infrastructure.
• Follow all company, client, state, and federal damage prevention guidelines.
• Locate other utilities in addition to gas lines, depending on project assignment.

Must be able to work overtime, weekend shifts, and on-call shifts (including nights and weekends), dependent upon the needs of the business. Weekend work may be frequent during startup mode in this area until volume normalizes.

Requirements

• Able and willing to work outdoors in various weather conditions (previous outdoor experience is a plus).
• Available to work overtime, weekends, and on-call shifts as needed.
• Ability to travel locally during the business day; some out-of-area or overnight travel may be expected.
• Able to pass a drug screen (this is a safety-sensitive position).
• Valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.
• Able to stand and walk for long periods on varying terrain; bend and stoop; lift heavy items up to 75 lbs.
• Able to distinguish between colors used to identify wiring and mark underground utilities.
• Proficiency with technology, including reading and understanding locate tickets, maps, and prints; basic math skills to calculate distances.
• Able to communicate clearly with colleagues, customers, contractors, and homeowners (customer service experience is a plus).

Pay

$20.00 hourly. Previous industry experience is a plus and will be considered when determining starting pay.
