Essential Functions & Responsibilities
- Operate heavy equipment including excavators, skid steers, loaders, and other construction machinery safely and efficiently
- Excavate safely around buried and existing utilities while maintaining full awareness of surroundings and locator markings
- Perform tasks related to gas pipeline construction including trenching, pipe installation, backfilling, grading, and site preparation
- Maintain proper trench depth, grade, and alignment according to job specifications
- Assist with pipe handling, placement, and alignment during installation
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures as well as DOT and OSHA regulations
- Maintain constant awareness of the “red zone” and operate equipment safely around ground personnel
- Maintain daily pre-trip and post-trip equipment inspections and report any mechanical or safety issues immediately
- Monitor equipment performance and ensure proper operation to prevent damage or downtime
- Assist with job site setup and teardown including staging materials and equipment
- Work closely with crew members to ensure efficient workflow and production goals are met
- Communicate clearly with foreman and crew regarding job progress, hazards, and site conditions
- Assist with general labor duties when not operating equipment
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and equipment
- Adapt to different job sites, schedules, and changing work conditions
- Follow directions from supervisors and demonstrate a willingness to learn and improve skills
- Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and customer requirements
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of experience operating heavy equipment preferred
- Experience in gas distribution or underground utility construction preferred
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Must pass and maintain required Operator Qualifications (OQs)
- Proven ability to safely excavate around underground utilities
- Working knowledge of pipeline construction, trenching, and backfilling practices
- Strong understanding of job site safety practices
- Ability to read and understand utility locator markings
- Strong communication skills and dependable work ethic

- Valid Drivers License and Reliable Transportation
- Must provide documentation to verify identity and employment eligibility in accordance with federal I-9 requirements
- Ability to pass drug test and background check
- Willingness to travel and work in different areas as needed
- Commitment to following all Safety Policies and Procedures
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and perform physical labor
- Ability to work overtime and extended hours based on workload
- Must be 18 years of age
Physical Requirements
- Ability to perform physically demanding labor including lifting, bending, and climbing
- Frequent standing, walking, and operating equipment for extended periods
- Ability to work in trench conditions and confined work areas
- Capability to work in demanding outdoor construction environments
Work Environment
- Outdoor construction job sites in varying weather conditions
- Exposure to heavy equipment, traffic, noise, and underground utilities
- Fast-paced environment requiring constant awareness of surroundings and safety hazards
Schedule/Travel Requirements
- Full-time position
- Work schedule based on project demands with overtime opportunities
- Travel required, including overnight stays
