Gardening Team Coordinator | Braddock Youth Project

About the Role

This is a full-time, professional position of a specialized nature with the Office of Strategy and Planning (OSP). The Gardening Team Coordinator will assist the AmeriCorps® Youth Programs Manager in implementing the Braddock Youth Project (BYP), a division of the KEYS Service Corps AmeriCorps Program. BYP is an after-school and summer academic assistance and work excellence training program for teens. The incumbent will work in a gardening-focused position for BYP in Braddock.

Responsibilities

• Lead youth in the planning and maintenance of all BYP gardening operations
• Oversee gardening curriculum; identify learning goals and plan appropriate workshops, enrichment activities, and work schedule
• Assist with supervising AmeriCorps members and teen participants
• Assist youth and their families in accessing immediate and long-term support services
• Assist youth in acquiring vital documents needed for employment
• Act as program liaison with Braddock and North Braddock boroughs and all other entities engaged with land usage and community greening projects in Braddock
• Write feedback (Straight Talk) for youth on the Gardening Team and edit feedback documents to finalize feedback for youth on other BYP teams
• Assist with the purchase and transportation of BYP program supplies
• Assist with the creation and implementation of professional development workshops for BYP youth
• Assist youth with homework and test preparation
• Assist with the organization and maintenance of BYP spaces and supplies
• Problem-solve challenges and assist with implementing solutions

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has assistant supervisory responsibilities over approximately 25 teen participants and assists in the supervision of 2-3 AmeriCorps members.

Requirements

• Effective written and oral communication skills
• Excellent organizational skills
• Experience coordinating simultaneous projects
• Working knowledge of basic office equipment and software
• Prior experience serving an AmeriCorps term is highly desired
• Prior experience writing and editing work readiness feedback is highly desired
• Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, or related field, plus 1-2 years’ experience in youth programming, planning, or administration or any equivalent combination of education and experience that meets the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
• Experience working at least one full growing season in a gardening or farm operation
• Master gardening certification or willingness to obtain certification is strongly desired
• Act 33, 34, and FBI Clearances
• Driver’s license strongly preferred

Preferred Qualifications

Former participant in a youth leadership, workforce development, mentoring, or service program, with the ability to draw on personal experience to effectively engage, mentor, and support current program participants.
