Duties and Responsibilities
- Overhaul transmissions.
- Overhaul power dividers and rear ends.
- Overhaul brakes, master cylinders, wheel cylinders, vacuum boosters, air brakes, air compressors, and air chambers.
- Operate drum and rotor lathe.
- Repair gasoline engines (all types and sizes).
- Repair diesel engines (all types and sizes).
- Repair propane engines (all types and sizes).
- Repair portable air compressors.
- Repair chain saws.
- Repair lawn motors (riding, push type and self propelled).
- Repair portable ditch pumps.
- Repair gasoline generators.
- Repair backhoes.
- Repair trenchers.
- Repair concrete saws.
- Repair fork lifts.
- Diagnose and repair engine analyzer.
- Diagnose and repair engine scanner.
- Diagnose and repair various gauges and meters used in the fleet maintenance field.
- Diagnose and repair starting and charging systems.
- Diagnose and repair air conditioning systems and be certified in 1234YF.
- Weld with acetylene, arc, and wire welding.
- Perform field troubleshooting.
- Change flat tires and repair tires when required.
- Lube and oil changes.
- Diagnose and repair aerial and hydraulic equipment such as derrick diggers, bucket trucks, backhoes, cranes, trenchers, hydro-lifts (all types).
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the Supervisor of Vehicle Maintenance and/or Garage Working Foreman.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED required.
- Journeyman mechanic certification required.
- ASE certification in heavy truck maintenance preferred.
Position Requirements (Abilities)
- Good attendance and safety record.
- Able to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and regular days off as necessary.
- Valid driver's license as required by the State of Kansas for vehicle(s) operated.
- Able to attend school and classes during off duty hours to keep current with new developments in the mechanic field as directed.
- Able to follow written and oral instructions.
