About the role
This position plays a vital role in creating a fun, fair, and safe recreational environment for adult volleyball leagues, including Men's, Women's, and Coed divisions. Our team seeks to provide the best customer service possible to the public and manage the facilities and programs that are essential to our quality of life for the people of Juneau.
Responsibilities
- Officiate adult volleyball matches for Men’s, Women’s, and Coed leagues, ensuring games are conducted fairly and in accordance with league rules.
- Maintain a safe environment by monitoring player behavior, enforcing facility and league rules, and stopping play when conditions are unsafe.
- Open and close facilities as needed, assist gym users with equipment, inspect the facility for cleanliness and safety, and complete incident or accident reports when necessary.
- Act as educators, explaining rules, calls, and proper equipment setup to players and team managers.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Prior experience in basketball, soccer, and/or volleyball as a scorekeeper, official, coach, or player.
- Reliable, able to arrive on time, and able to open and close the gym independently for each shift.
- Flexible to work varied shifts including evenings and weekends.
- Positive/outgoing work attitude and excellent customer service skills.
- Keeps facility clean and safe for all patrons.
- Contributes to the success of the Department.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications include prior experience in basketball, soccer, and/or volleyball as a scorekeeper, official, coach, or player.
Skills
Must have excellent customer service skills, be reliable, arrive on time, and be able to open and close the gym independently for each shift.

Schedule
Seasonal (September through April), hours vary depending on scheduled leagues/programs for the Men’s, Women’s and Coed Volleyball Programs. Typically Monday through Friday between 6:00pm and 10:00pm, and Sundays between 2:00pm and 6:00pm. Position would typically be working at Dzantik’i Heeni Middle School and/or Floyd Dryden.
