About the role
The Galvanizing Material Handler is responsible for storing, moving, handling, and distributing materials in a structured work environment designed to minimize safety risks. Each job is planned in detail, with safety issues addressed before work begins. Extensive on-the-job training is provided.
Pay
$19.00 per hour
Schedule
5:00 AM – 3:30 PM, Monday–Friday; weekends as needed. Overtime hours available.
Responsibilities
- Identify various types of raw material, in-process or finished product, equipment, or processing materials.
- Check identification of materials to be moved and cross-reference with production or shipping schedules to ensure accuracy.
- Safely proceed to assigned area to pull loads and move materials to correct work areas; report inconsistencies or problems to supervisors.
- Receive, document, store, stage, and issue all job-related material to satisfy production requirements.
- Support assembly and fabrication requirements as necessary.
- Assist operators in delivering fabrication parts to maximize department efficiency.
- Remove and distribute empty pallets and buckets as needed.
- Select, prepare, and update paperwork and schedules both on paper and computer.
- Package, create, and band equipment, parts, materials, products, and accessories to minimize damage during shipment or staging and ensure a safe work environment.
- Apply labels, stickers, and stencils as required for identification and ease of storage or shipping.
- Comply with all safety requirements, including proper use of personal protective equipment and safe operation of equipment.
- Understand and meet all departmental safety objectives and goals.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and orderly work area per 5S standards.
- Operate forklifts, cranes, and yard trucks to transport and locate equipment and materials to required areas.
- Maintain accurate inventory, reporting shortages, overages, and supply needs to supervisor.
- In the galvanizing department, may be responsible for wiring material to rack, loading jigs, and/or kettle operations.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience in the steel industry or galvanizing is a plus.
- Ability to be forklift and overhead crane certified; forklift experience required.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Effective communication in English.
- Outstanding work ethic, punctuality, and desire to constantly improve skills.
- Ability to prioritize work with minimal direction.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and time management.
- Must be dependable, reliable, and mature enough to handle equipment safely and sensibly.

Working Conditions
- Shop floor and yard position, primarily outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.

Physical Requirements
- Heavy work: exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 75 pounds frequently, and up to 50 pounds constantly to move objects.
- Perform physical activities requiring considerable use of arms and legs and moving the entire body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, tugging, stooping, bending, twisting, crawling, and handling materials.
- Manual dexterity, ability to pick/pinch and work with fingers, repetitive motions of wrist/hands/fingers, and arm-hand steadiness.
- Safely utilize ladders, manlifts, forklifts, and overhead cranes.
- Ascend or descend ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and similar structures using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.
- Work in an open environment for long shifts (including weekends) exposed to extreme temperatures and standing for entire shifts.
- Ability to concentrate on tasks for long periods and observe and receive information from all relevant sources.
- Visual acuity to make general observations of facilities or structures.
