Job Description

Affords assistance in overseeing and coordinating activities of workers engaged in preparing, cooking, and serving food in school cafeterias.

  • Complies with the Code of Ethics of the Education Profession; upholds and enforces rules, administrative directives, regulations, GISD school board policies, as well as local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Assists in supervising and coordinating activities of workers who prepare, cook, serve food, clean premises, and wash dishes.
  • Keeps daily record of meals served and takes inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Assists in the training of new employees as needed.
  • Assists in the ordering of food and non-food items needed based on the set menus given.
  • Acts as the Clerk in the absence of the Cook-Clerk.
  • Participates in preparing, cooking meals, cleaning of kitchen, and other daily tasks of preparing meals.
  • Acts as Student Nutrition Manager in the absence of the Student Nutrition Manager.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervises 2 Field Supervisors. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Indirectly supervises 180+ non-supervisory employees.

Qualifications

  • EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or GED. Minimum of one (1) to three (3) months of related experience and/or training.
  • MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Supplemental Information

  • LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • REASONING ABILITIES: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals; and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
