Summary Description

Under direction, provides direct, consultative, and other program services to students with physical disabilities, regular classroom teachers, and parents on strategies and accommodations to access the curriculum and school environment. Assists in the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEP) and participating in IEP team meetings.

Duties

  • Affords support to students in a Home School Model Setting, including coteaching and co-planning with general education teachers.

Wage Range

The wage range for this position is between $20.65 and $26.16 per hour, based on years of service.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Knowledge of physical disabilities and the impact to instruction;
  • Thorough knowledge of teaching strategies, assistive devices, and accommodations for students with physical disabilities;
  • Ability to administer, interpret, and analyze data, and write concise educational assessment reports.

Other Requirements

  • Excellent oral and written communications and human relations skills.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in special education with course work in teaching students with physical disabilities, student teaching experience in the area of physical disabilities, or two years experience in teaching the physically disabled;
  • Training and/or experience with students with physical disabilities, technology, and universal design are desirable.

Certification/License

Maryland State Department of Education certification requirements for Standard Professional Certification I (SPC I) in special education.
