FY27: Teacher, Special Education (SCB), Bethesda ES, 0.5 FTE

Under direction of the school principal and special education supervisor, the special education teacher provides direct instruction and instructional support to students with disabilities and works in collaboration with the general education teacher. Monitors and evaluates outcomes for students with disabilities. Assists in the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEP).

Responsibilities

• Provide direct instruction and instructional support to students with disabilities
• Collaborate with general education teachers
• Monitor and evaluate outcomes for students with disabilities
• Assist in the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEP)
• Attend school meetings, programs, and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the Montgomery County Education Association agreement
• Support behavioral interventions, including nonviolent crisis interventions
• Apply the six performance standards established for the Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) Teacher Professional Growth System (TPGS)

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in special education
• Student teaching in the specific area of exceptionality or two years of teaching experience at the appropriate level (elementary or secondary)
• Meets Maryland State Department of Education certification requirements for Standard Professional Certification I (SPC I) in special education
• Certification in a content area is desirable
• Fluent in learning theory, differentiated instruction, developmental reading, child development, applied behavior analysis, and assessment
• Knowledge of MCPS curriculum, special education program, IEP processes, and state/federal policies (ESSA 2015, IDEA 2004)
• Ability to adapt instructional programs and materials for students with disabilities
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work with students, teachers, and parents/guardians

Pay

Salary range: $33,345 – $67,873, based on education and experience.

Schedule

• Part-time
• 10-month working schedule
• Day shift
