Summary Description

Under direction provides direct, consultative, and other program services for children ages three through five, who have disabilities in two or more developmental areas. Assesses plans and provides instruction on the MCPS pre kindergarten curriculum outcomes for students. Consults with staff (coordinator, program support teacher, related service providers, parent educators, and paraeducators) on strategies and accommodations to access the curriculum and school environment. Ability to administer, accurately interpret, analyze data and write concise educational assessment reports.

Job Specific Information

This position will serve as the teacher for two PEP Classic sections, providing instruction for both the morning (AM) and afternoon (PM) classes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct, consultative, and other program services for children ages three through five with disabilities in two or more developmental areas
  • Assess, plan, and provide instruction on the MCPS pre-kindergarten curriculum outcomes for students
  • Consult with staff (coordinator, program support teacher, related service providers, parent educators, and paraeducators) on strategies and accommodations to access the curriculum and school environment
  • Administer, accurately interpret, analyze data and write concise educational assessment reports
  • Implement effective behavior intervention strategies
  • Develop functional behavior assessments and implement behavioral intervention plans
  • Establish effective classroom management routines

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in special education from an accredited college or university
  • Background in early childhood human development, developmental disabilities, and working with parents and families
  • Meets Maryland State Department of Education requirements for special education teacher
  • Experience teaching pre-kindergarten children with developmental delays desired
  • Other combinations of applicable education, training and experience that provide the knowledge, abilities and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered

Skills and Knowledge

  • Knowledge of early childhood intervention for children with multiple developmental delays
  • Knowledge of typical and atypical development of children, ages three through five years
  • Thorough knowledge of educational techniques/programming to address multiple developmental delays
  • Knowledge of technology applications for pre-kindergarten students
  • Knowledge of early literacy
  • Ability to identify problems and generate solutions to address the learning needs of pre-kindergarten students with delays
  • Ability to implement effective behavior intervention strategies
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks at a time
  • Excellent organizational skills for managing student information
  • Ability to establish effective classroom management routines
  • Excellent communication and human relations skills

Pay

The wage range for this position is a salary between $66,690 and $135,745 based on education and experience.
