Summary Description
Under direction of the principal, plans and administers the school's library media program. In collaboration with teachers, plans and provides for students information literacy skills instruction integrated into the content areas. Provides instructional technology training to staff. Manages library media center material, facilities, and equipment. Communicates the school library media program vision and mission to administrators, staff, students, parents, and the broader community.

Required to attend school meetings, programs and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the MCEA agreement.
Job Specific Information
Seeking a creative, collaborative Media Specialist passionate about fostering a love of reading. The ideal candidate will partner with teachers to design engaging lessons that build literacy, research, and computer skills aligned to the MCPS curriculum and grade-level standards.
Responsibilities include leading schoolwide reading initiatives, co-planning and supporting research and writing projects, and delivering media instruction that balances skill development with content integration.
Candidates should be innovative, student-centered, and comfortable collaborating across teams. A strong vision for building and sustaining a thriving, forward-thinking library media program is essential.
Experience
Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in school library media and course work in curriculum and special education. Completion of a practicum or two years of successful teaching or two years of successful media-related experience.
Certification/License
Maryland state certification requirements for School Library Media Specialist.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Thorough knowledge of MCPS Policies and Procedures for school library media programs and MCPS Administrative Regulation ITA-RA: School Library Media Program.
Knowledge of effective instructional practices and understanding of the teaching/learning process.
Knowledge of current instructional and research technologies and the ability to integrate these into the library media program and throughout the curriculum.
Ability to work effectively with administrators, staff, students and community.
Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.
Wage Range
A salary between $64,591 and $131,472 based on education and experience.
