FY27: School Library Media Specialist, Ridgeview MS, 1.0 FTE

About the Role

Under the direction of the principal, plans and administers the school’s library media program. In collaboration with teachers, plans and provides for students information literacy skills instruction integrated into the content areas. Provides instructional technology training to staff. Manages library media center material, facilities, and equipment. Communicates the school library media program vision and mission to administrators, staff, students, parents, and the broader community.

Responsibilities

• Administer the school’s library media program under the principal’s direction.
• Collaborate with teachers to integrate information literacy skills into content areas.
• Provide instructional technology training to staff.
• Manage library media center materials, facilities, and equipment.
• Communicate the library media program’s vision and mission to stakeholders.
• Attend school meetings, programs, and activities outside the instructional day as mandated by the MCEA agreement.

Requirements

• Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in school library media, with coursework in curriculum and special education.
• Completion of a practicum or two years of successful teaching or two years of successful media-related experience.
• Meets Maryland state certification requirements for School Library Media Specialist.
• Thorough knowledge of MCPS Policies and Procedures for school library media programs and MCPS Administrative Regulation ITA-RA: School Library Media Program.
• Knowledge of effective instructional practices and the teaching/learning process.
• Knowledge of current instructional and research technologies and ability to integrate them into the library media program and curriculum.
• Ability to work effectively with administrators, staff, students, and the community.
• Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.

Pay

Salary range between $66,690 and $135,745 based on education and experience.
