Summary Description
Under general supervision of the payroll supervisor, will process Payroll and Attendance Collection System (PACS) Attendance, payroll and leave processes as well as having a strong understanding of each of these functions to be able to troubleshoot as necessary. Calculates leave payoffs including 403b deductions, overused leave upon termination or retirement and can determine billing status. Submits, processes and reviews yearly updates such as special payments, union dues updates, time accrual updates, etc. Participates in testing related to changes in procedures, and processes, as well as implementation of systems. Explains payroll policy, procedures, and provides guidance to current employees, retirees, Employee and Retiree Services Center (ERSC) staff.
Provides support to members of the payroll team and the payroll supervisor.

Wage Range: Salary between $31.35 p/h and $46.19 p/h based on position responsibilities.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Thorough knowledge of: payroll processes and procedures, MCPS policies, and negotiated agreements, tax laws, 403b limits, and pensions.
Ability to: calculate federal, FICA, state, and local taxes, and pensions; commit to confidentiality of private information; efficiently and accurately perform calculations related to pay and leave using detailed procedural rules; be highly motivated, disciplined, and provide excellent customer-focused service and documentation; have strong knowledge of Lawson HRIS system, Absence Management, MHC software, PC skills, Microsoft Excel and Word; create and run reports through reporting software; have excellent communication and interpersonal skills; exercise independent initiative to perform both original and recurring assignments required; work in a high volume and fast-paced environment; prioritize multiple tasks, meet deadlines with qualitative and quantitative output; prepare reports; maintain business and financial operating records confidentiality.
Education, Training, Experience
Associates degree required or any combination of education and experience equivalent to an Associates degree in payroll or related field, plus three years or more of progressively more responsible experience in payroll and leave.
Three or more years experience working in Montgomery County Public Schools, or other public educational institution in public human resources administration.
