Summary Description Of Classification

This paraeducator performs a variety of tasks to promote student learning and well-being, supporting students with IEPs. Tasks include assisting with academic, behavioral, social, emotional, and physical support, attending to personal care and medical needs, and participating in learning activities off-campus. The paraeducator facilitates mastery of grade-level curriculum or alternate standards and supports teachers and staff in classrooms.

• Frequent bending, walking, kneeling, running, and lifting up to 50 pounds

• Frequent overtime or night work required
• Outside duty may be required

• Wage Range: $28.57 - $44.10 per hour

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• Knowledge of child development, instructional strategies, and policies
• Ability to assist with implementation of the instructional program and monitor student behavior
• Patience and effective communication skills
• Ability to follow instructions and perform tasks
• Knowledge of standard computer hardware and software
• Knowledge of SSPGS core competencies

Education, Training, And Experience

• Associate’s degree, required
• Bachelor’s degree preferred
• College course work including 9 credit-hours related to education fields such as behavior management, instructional strategies
• One year of experience working with students in structured educational situations preferred
• Two to four years of experience working with children and adolescents in structured settings such as daycare, pre-school, etc.
• Successful completion of ParaPro Assessment with a qualifying score of 455 or higher
• Two years of experience in structured settings such as daycare, pre-school, adult day program, after-school program, etc.
